The Iowa Cubs split a doubleheader with the Oklahoma City Dodgers

I m going to be on the road tomorrow, so tomorrow s wrap is probably not going to show up until Wednesday morning and it won t be by me.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs split a doubleheader with the Oklahoma City Dodgers, losing game one 10 9 in nine innings and winning game two 3 2 in eight innings.

In game one, the I Cubs fell behind early as starter Pierce Johnson lasted only two innings. Johnson allowed five runs on four hits, including a three run home run in the first inning. Johnson walked three and did not strike anyone out.

Dallas Beeler pitched two thirds of an inning on a rehab assignment and exited with an apparent injury. He allowed one run on two hits.

Starling Peralta pitched the seventh and eighth innings without allowing a baserunner, but in the bottom of the ninth he gave up a leadoff triple. After intentionally walking the next two batters, he gave up a walkoff RBI single. Peralta did not strike anyone out.

FIrst baseman Dan Vogelbach tied the game up in the top of the seventh with a two run double. Earlier, in the sixth inning, Vogelbach connected for his 15th home run of the year with a man on. Vogelbach was 3 for 4 with two doubles and the home run. He scored twice and had four total RBI.

Center fielder Juan Perez went back to back with Vogelbach with his fourth home run this season. Perez went 1 for 4.

Tommy La Stella was in Oklahoma City tonight on a rehab assignment. He played third base in this game and hit a two run home run in the third inning. La Stella played four innings and went 2 for 3.

Matt Murton and John Andreoli were both 2 for 4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.

In game two Addison Russell Jersey, starter Jake Buchanan went the seven regulation innings, allowing just two runs on nine hits. Buchanan walked one and struck out a season high eight Dodgers. He improved his record on the season to 7 4.

Corey Black pitched the bottom of the eighth inning and got the save. He allowed one hit. He struck out one and walked nobody.

Left fielder Mark Zagunis connected for a two run home run in the top of the fourth inning. It was Zagunis second Iowa home run and sixth overall. Zagunis was 2 for 3 with a walk.

Second baseman Logan Watkins went 2 for 4 with a stolen base. He scored on the Zagunis home run. Vogelbach was 2 for 3 in game two.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies filleted the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Reds , 12 1 in a game that ended after six inning because of the mercy rule rain.

Starter Brad Markey got a rain shortened complete game win. Markey didn t allow a baserunner until the fifth innings. His final line on the night was one run on four hits. He struck out two and walked no one.

Second baseman Ian Happ hit his second home run in just his fifth game with the Smokies. He hit seven with the Pelicans. It was a two run home run in the third inning. Happ was a perfect 3 for 3 with three RBI and two runs scored. He s now hitting .733 since his callup to Double A.

Right fielder Billy McKinney went 2 for 3 with a walk and a base loaded triple. McKinney had four total RBI and scored two runs.

First baseman Victor Caratini went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI. He scored once. Third baseman Chesny Young went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. Young scored three runs.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Rained out. Doubleheader tomorrow.

South Bend Cubs

The South Bend Cubs lost for the first time in the second half Anthony Rizzo Jersey, 6 1 to the Lake County Captains Indians .

Starter Adbert Alzolay got knocked around for five runs on eleven hits over five innings. One of the five runs was unearned. Alzolay did strike out five and he walked no one.

Right fielder Eddy Martinez singled home center fielder Donnie Dewees in the sixth inning for the only Cubs run of this game. Martinez was 1 for 2 with a walk and Dewees went 1 for 4 with a double.

First baseman Tyler Alamo and second baseman Carlos Sepulveda were both 2 for 4.

Eugene Emeralds

The Eugene Emeralds toppled the Spokane Indians Rangers , 8 2.

Starter Jesus Castillo was outstanding this evening. Castillo just allowed one hit over five innings. He struck out eleven and walked only one as he picked up the win.

Third baseman Matt Rose hit a two run home run in the eighth inning to provide some more insurance. It was Rose s second Eugene home run and seventh overall. He was 2 for 3 with three RBI.
